The News Equity Fund is a new initiative that Google has introduced.
This is Google's attempt to give opportunities and funding to news organizations, particularly Indonesian media, whose main goal is to serve marginalized areas.
In a statement released on Monday (11/7/2022), Google Indonesia stated that the company's "goal is to support inclusion, empower a diverse news ecosystem, and specifically support small and medium-sized publishers in publishing original journalism content for underrepresented audiences around the world."
Independent newsrooms with between 1 and 50 full-time or full-time journalists are eligible for the News Equity Fund.
Traditional for-profit or nonprofit news companies, digital natives, newsletters, podcasts, radio and/or TV stations, and press associations with underrepresented group members are all examples of eligible applicants.
These medium should at the very least contain content that can be independently verified, like a webpage. Additionally, it is established that they have been completely functional for at least a year.
